SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is an advanced laser vision correction procedure used to treat myopia and certain forms of astigmatism. The treatment reshapes the cornea through a small incision, without creating a corneal flap, helping to achieve clear and stable vision.
Using femtosecond laser technology, a thin corneal lenticule is created and removed through a tiny incision, allowing precise vision correction while preserving the natural biomechanics of the cornea. The procedure is minimally invasive and designed to support rapid recovery and long-term visual outcomes.
Key benefits include:
Minimally invasive flap-free procedure
Preservation of corneal strength
Rapid visual recovery
Reduced risk of dry eye symptoms
SMILE is one of the most innovative refractive surgery techniques available today, providing safe, effective, and long-lasting vision correction.
SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) – Recovery and Travel Recommendations
After SMILE laser vision correction, most patients can return to normal daily activities within 1–2 days. Temporary dryness, blurred vision, glare, or mild discomfort may occur, but recovery is usually quick. Patients should avoid rubbing the eyes, swimming, eye makeup, and dusty environments during the early healing period.
Patients are advised to remain in the country for about 2 days after the procedure.
Air travel is usually possible after the first postoperative check-up, if the eyes are healing well.
For longer journeys exceeding 4–6 hours, patients should use lubricating drops regularly and follow the surgeon’s travel advice.
The cost of the procedure may vary based on anesthesia type, sutures, additional tests, and hospital stay length.
