Medical tourism is a top national priority for Armenia

The Government of Armenia has identified tourism development as a national economic priority through its 2026–2030 tourism strategy, including efforts to strengthen Armenia's position in medical and wellness tourism.

MEDam is officially collaborating with the Ministry of Economy to support this vision by helping connect international patients with trusted healthcare providers and tourism resources in Armenia.

The Memorandum of Understanding

MEDam operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tourism Committee of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia on the development of medical tourism in Armenia. The MOU supports MEDam's role as the operator of the MEDam platform and reflects a broader national effort to connect healthcare, tourism, and diaspora-related services for patients traveling to Armenia for care.

Ministry of Economy

The Tourism Committee of Armenia's Ministry of Economy supports the tourism side of the patient journey, including coordination with Armenia's tourism sector and integration of travel-related services.

Healthcare

MEDam and the Ministry of Health have worked together to develop a framework which includes healthcare standards and provider verification processes relevant to participating providers.

Diaspora

MEDam engages with the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs to help connect international patients, including members of the Armenian diaspora, with information, language support, and services in Armenia.

The goal of this cooperation is to support a digital platform accessible to both citizens of Armenia and patients around the world seeking affordable, high-quality medical services.

Government directives accelerating MEDam

Beyond the Memorandum, two government directives were issued in 2024 to fast-track onboarding of service providers onto MEDam.com, followed by the Government's 2026 decision formalizing the national tourism program.

Ministry of Health

Directive · Issued 2024

Directive to hospitals and doctors to expedite onboarding onto the MEDam platform.

Ministry of Economy

Directive · Issued 2024

Directive issued to hotels to accelerate onboarding onto the platform ahead of the tourism integration.

Government of Armenia

Directive · Issued 2026

Government decision approving the Tourism Plan for 2026, formalizing medical tourism in the national program.

The result: government-supported onboarding has brought 80+ doctors and 16 hospitals and clinics through MEDam's provider review process ahead of public launch.
