LASEK (Laser-Assisted Subepithelial Keratectomy) is a modern laser vision correction procedure used to treat myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The treatment reshapes the cornea to improve the focusing of light on the retina, resulting in clearer and sharper vision.
Unlike LASIK, LASEK does not require the creation of a permanent corneal flap. Instead, the thin surface layer of the cornea is gently preserved and repositioned after laser treatment, making the procedure a suitable option for patients with thin corneas or specific corneal characteristics.
Key benefits include:
Precise vision correction
No permanent corneal flap
Suitable for thinner corneas
Long-lasting visual improvement
LASEK provides safe and effective vision correction while maintaining corneal integrity and supporting long-term ocular health and visual performance.
LASEK (Laser-Assisted Subepithelial Keratectomy) – Recovery and Travel Recommendations
After LASIK, most patients can return to work and normal daily activities within 1–2 days, depending on visual comfort. Temporary dryness, glare, halos, light sensitivity, or blurred vision may occur during the early recovery period. Eye rubbing, swimming, eye makeup, and dusty environments should be avoided for a short period after surgery.
Patients are advised to remain in the country for at least 2 days after surgery.
Air travel is usually possible after the first postoperative check-up, if the eyes are healing well.
For longer journeys exceeding 4–6 hours, patients should use lubricating drops frequently and follow the surgeon’s instructions.
The cost of the procedure may vary based on anesthesia type, sutures, additional tests, and hospital stay length.
