A tummy tuck, medically known as abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to improve the shape, firmness, and overall contour of the abdomen. It is commonly performed for patients who have excess skin, localized fat deposits, or weakened abdominal muscles as a result of pregnancy, significant weight loss, or the natural aging process.
During the procedure, the plastic surgeon removes excess skin and fat while also tightening the underlying abdominal muscles to restore strength and support to the abdominal wall. As a result, the abdomen appears flatter, smoother, and more toned. Abdominoplasty can significantly enhance body contour, physical comfort, and self-confidence, while preserving a natural and balanced appearance.
Abdominal Wall Surgery – Recovery and Travel Guidance
After abdominal wall surgery, most patients can typically return to work within approximately 2 weeks, depending on the nature of their job and individual recovery progress. However, heavy physical activity, strenuous exercise, and lifting should be avoided for approximately 6 weeks to support proper healing and reduce the risk of complications.
Patients are advised to remain in the country for at least 14 days after surgery.
During this initial recovery period, air travel and even short trips of up to 3 hours are not recommended.
For longer journeys exceeding 4–6 hours, it is generally safer to wait at least 4–6 weeks before traveling, in order to minimize the risk of complications and allow sufficient recovery time.
The cost of the procedure may vary based on anesthesia type, sutures, additional tests, and hospital stay length.
